STANDING LAMP
Part of the collection
Standing Lamp is a contemporary reinterpretation of Polish wicker craftsmanship, translating vernacular weaving typologies into an architectural lighting object through the dialogue between willow and stainless steel.
Project exhibited in ICFF New York and Visteria Foundation Craft days
The lamp draws from the vernacular typologies of Polish wicker weaving by understanding the structural logic that shaped them. The woven shade references traditional fishing traps and utilitarian baskets, whose circular forms emerged from the behaviour of willow rather than formal intention. For many people in Poland these silhouettes remain quietly familiar, recalling rivers, wetlands, village workshops and objects that once belonged naturally to the everyday landscape. The tripod structure similarly originates from the simple wooden supports found in weaving workshops, where baskets were produced. Rather than becoming decorative references, these elements preserve the material intelligence accumulated through generations of craftsmanship.
Stainless steel introduces a contemporary counterpart to willow. Its precision, durability and recyclability allow the woven structure to exist beyond the limitations of the material while remaining fully disassemblable and repairable. The contrast between industrial steel and hand-woven willow reflects the project’s broader ambition: to position traditional craft as a living system capable of evolving within contemporary design.
